Solar Sustainable Housing

Project (Task) Deliverables

Web site: Model Sustainable Solar Housing (1)

This web site presents built marketable solar sustainable housing exemplary in design, living quality, extreme low energy demand and minimal environmental impact. Definitions, criteria and target values will be included. It will be produced to win builders and excite potential home-buyers. (Lead: Subtask A)

Design guidelines: Marketable Sustainable Solar Housing: Plans, Details and Performance (2)

Recently built housing is illustrated with plans, sections, details, performance data and reference costs. The design checklist and advise from the survey of builders and home owners from Subtask A are appended. (Co-Lead: Subtasks B and D)

Handbook: Guide to Cost Effective Design (3)

Proven design concepts and systems which reduce non-renewable energy consumption, environmental impact and costs are presented in detail in this handbook. The facts, curves and graphs are the result of building monitoring, lab testing and computer modelling and aimed at cost optimizing designs. Finally, commonly used computer tools are reviewed for their applicability and worked examples and data sets are provided. The target audience is specialists working for homebuilders. (Lead: Subtask B)

Press Kits: Demonstration Buildings (4)

Built projects with proven performance are still one of the best means of convincing builders that the risk to build such housing is acceptable. To increase the multiplication effect beyond the local region Press Kits will be produced to be reworked into articles and brochures in local languages. (Lead: Subtask B).

Workshops and Symposia (5)

After the Task conclusion experts will hold regional workshops to bring Task know-how to builders and designers. Exemplary projects will be presented; analytical techniques for cost optimization explained; and tips for marketing offered. (Lead: Subtask A)
